Chimney Rock

Sorry it's been a while; Rufina and I have been on the road again. This time we did a South Carolina Sandwich Trip, but we did make a quick border run to NORTH Carolina and that is where we start the photos.
This is Chinmey Rock Park which is southeast of Asheville, NC.

The park is located on a park overlooking a small town that is nestled along the Broad River right before it flows into Lake Lure (where they filmed Dirty Dancing).
You can see the lake off in the distance behind the "chimney"- a tall shaft of rock that is separate from the mountainside and therefore, looks a bit like a chimney. Below, Rufina rests atop the chimney, surrounded by clouds and mist.

Below, we are standing on Chimney Rock with the rock face of the mountain behind us. Just above the trees to my right you can see some railing...

... that railing is where Rufina is when I took this picture overlooking the top of the Chimney Rock.

This is my best attempt at imitating the "Devil's Head" rock formation on the side of the mountain. A natural, no?

"No evil deed goes unpunished"- in the pokey.

After being "set free", Rufina and I ascended to the plateau on the main mountain and stopped to enjoy this waterfall (which is in the area where part of The Last of The Mohicans was filmed).

Rufina enjoys the view from the top of the waterfall, looking onward to our next stop...
