The Energizer Couple keeps on going...

This past weekend I went to Huntsville to celebrate my grandparents'- or mis abuelos, if you please- 60th wedding anniversary.

Don't they look great for being almost 90 and 80-something respectively?
My Papa & Grandma are amazing people.
He was born in Puerto Rico. He served in the army for years and is a retired Captain. After serving in the military and raising 3 boys, he moved out to the country to raise cattle on Grant Mountain in Alabama. About 10 years ago, he sold the farm when he was diagnosed with cancer. At that time, he was the hardest working guy I knew; and he was about to be 80! Mending fences, clearing land and feeding cattle... he never quit. After fighting through cancer, he is still going strong- walking daily, renovating houses and finding other projects to upset my grandma. He is an amazing man and is thankful for each day he wakes up (there is a lesson there).
Grandma was also born in Puerto Rico, and God bless her, she had 3 boys and raised them into men. She has a heart of gold and is a true matriarch. One of her close friend recently passed away and for a while, Grandma had been visiting her almost daily to keep Mrs. Lugo company while she withered away. She fights through lupus and other ailments to keep going each day also.
Below are my grandparents with their three sons- Walter, Edgar and my dad. An interesting fact is that my sister is the only girl in the family in 2 generations (3 sons, 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter).

Here is another picture of my beautiful grandmother with her friend Mrs. Carascilla. Her friend Mrs. Ramirez gave my grandmother this beautiful dress for the party. They were part of a group of a handful of Puerto Rican families that all ended up in Huntsville in the 1960s and have stayed friends since then (the Lugo, Ramirez, Carascilla, Diaz and Cancel families).
