Down by the River
"Have your people call my people and we'll do lunch." So you know you're not in Kansas... or the US for that matter, when you catch a guy talking on his cell phone while riding his elephant. But such is life at the Mae Taeng Elephant camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and that's where we were last Monday. After taking a Sabbath break to reflect on the resurrection of Our LORD Jesus Christ, we headed out with our trusty guide, Eak, to the elephants.
Above, Ginny feeds a baby elephant. Below, one of the trainer gets an elephant to 'open wide and show his pearly-whites.'
The elephants eat a whole bunch... literally. They eat bananas and sugarcane and much more. After eating all day, there's bound to be some kind of result, right? That's what the hunk is on the ground in the photo below. (Sorry, couldn't resist)

After feeding the big guys and watching the elephant show, we rode one of the elephants. Part of the trip was through this stream (above). We saw these two boys trying to catch something in the water. They were using the basket looking thing to catch them and the water bottle to store them, so I'm guessing it was either small fish for bait, crawdads or river prawns. It kinda reminded me of Tow Sawyer and Huck Finn... so much, so we decided to take a raft down the river.

Believe it or not, there's still more to come...
